The Northeast Georgia Council's Advancement Committee, made up of volunteers
from Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting and Venturing, have put together some guidelines
to assist units and districts. These guidelines fully adhere to BSA policy.

Opportunities
Available to Boy Scouts & Venturing Scouts
A number of opportunities such as training courses, summer jobs,
scholarships, and special programs are available to Scouts in
your troop or crew.
Philmont Scout Ranch
-- The Boy Scouts of America's premier high-adventure base challenges
Scouts and Venturers with more than 200 square miles of rugged New
Mexico wilderness.
Acquire Life Skills at Scout Camp
-- Explore the opportunities for a variety of summer camp staff jobs
at 420 Scout camps, 60 council high-adventure programs, and three national
high-adventure bases.
Working at Philmont
-- A wide variety of paid positions are available a Philmont, where over
850 staff members operate and support Philmont's program and Training
Center.
Staff Needed for High-Adventure Bases
-- The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, Northern Tier National
High Adventure Program, and Philmont Scout Ranch annually seek applications
from qualified men and women.
European
Camp Staff Program
-- Through the European Camp Staff program, young leaders from the Boy Scouts
of
America have the opportunity to learn more about Scouting in Europe by working
at a European Scout center.
Overseas
Scouting Facilities
-- International accommodations for Scouts are available in Switzerland and in
England.
Antarctic
Scientific Program
-- Every other year, one Boy Scout will join teams of scientists conducting research
during expeditions scheduled for the Antarctic summer season.
National Eagle Scout Association (NESA)
-- A fellowship of men who have achieved the Eagle Scout rank and who
desire using their efforts and influence toward forming the kind of young
men
America needs for leadership.
U.S. Army Youth Certificate of Recognition
-- Scouts who achieve the rank of Eagle are entitled to receive the U.S.
Army Youth Certificate of Recognition at their Court of Honor ceremony.
Order
of the Arrow
-- The Order of the Arrow (OA) is the BSA's national brotherhood of honor campers.

Eagle Scout Scholarships Offered:
The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR)
have offered an Eagle Scout scholarship program. Information can be gathered
at the Georgia SAR website http://www.eaglescout.gassar.org
The Elks National Foundation funds the Elks'
Eagle Scout Scholarship program. Applications and all other
information must be obtained
through the Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts process all applications
and notify the ENF of the applicants selected. Click

The National Jewish Committee
on Scouting awards national scholarships to the Eagle Scouts that
may be used to attend a college, university, or school selected
by the student. Click

The American Legion annually honors the American Legion Eagle
Scout of the Year at its National Convention. The winner of the competition receives
an $10,000
scholarship and the three runners-up each are awarded $2,500 scholarships. Click

Lamar University College of Engineering offers four-year scholarships (total
value of $28,200) for Eagle Scouts majoring in Computer Science, Engineering,

VFW "Scout of the
Year" Scholarship:
This scholarship competition
has been available to Eagle Scouts only for many years. The Veterans
of Foreign Wars (VFW) are now making these scholarships available
to Quartermasters

New! Religious Emblems Video!
A new video called Promoting Duty to God (Religious Emblems) is now available.
This video is an interfaith resource promoting the religious emblems of ALL faiths.
It is 7-1/2 minutes long and may be used in training events as well as in presentations
to individual units. Several resources (e.g., syllabus, scripts, handouts, etc.)
have been created to be used with this video and are available at www.praypub.org.
Boy Scout Sabbath/Sunday is in February. Plan now to make a presentation on the
religious emblems to your Scouts and families now!
