Welcome from the Chairman

Welcome to the Sweetwater BSA web site. Whether you are first time visitor or a regular, we hope you will find this site helpful. The Sweetwater District provides scouting for youth located in Southern Gwinnett and Walton Counties for the NE Georgia Council. The Sweetwater District has professionals assigned by the Council to provide resources and assistance that result in a quality scouting experience. You will see names and linked email addresses below for our professionals. Many scouting volunteers provide the balance of energy and leadership. Sweetwater is blessed to have strength and dedication offered by its volunteers and professional staff. I encourage you to explore this site. We have many links within and to other outside scouting resources.  Of particular note, please take a moment to look at menu item “Roundtable”. The adult leadership for both Boys Scout and Cub Scout units meet once a month. At a minimum, each unit should have at least one representative attend. There is no limitation as to how many adult leaders may attend. This is the primary communication vehicle for sharing information to help you produce the best scouting experience for your unit. We discuss for example upcoming programs and events.  Frequently fresh and novel ideas are circulated here. Roundtable is very informative and will make it easier for your unit to succeed. If you have a need for information or have a question, you may contact our district professionals or the district volunteer leadership. The senior volunteer leadership is aligned as follows:

Please ask your adult leaders to review and update their training. Our youth expect nothing less. On a closing note, our future is guided by the upcoming centennial celebration for scouting in 2010. Sweetwater has been very good over the years to provide an excellent quality scouting experience. I like to think that the work we do in Sweetwater is “Simply the Best”. Good luck and good scouting.

Introducing Scoutmapfinder!

Find a Scouting Unit Near You!

Here is a new link for the Sweetwater District to help you find units in your area.  This has been put together & is run by volunteers.  Please pass this along to all your leaders.  It is a great tool and has taken a lot of time to input the information.  You will be able to email
unit leaders for information about their unit and get addresses of the Charter Organizations.

In February 2010, the Boy Scouts of America will celebrate 100 years as an organization. Founded as an outlet to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a participating citizen and leader, BSA has more than fulfilled its mission. Today, as we celebrate our first 100 years, we not only reflect on our rich history, but lay the foundation for a strong future, as well.

The Boy Scouts of America's 100th anniversary represents much more than a date on the calendar. It represents an important milestone around which to reintroduce Scouting to America – to celebrate our rich heritage and to reinforce the important role Scouting will play in shaping our country's future. Scouting is as vital and relevant today as it was when our journey began.

I encourage everyone to take part in our 100 year celebration.  There will be many activities for all scouts and leaders to participate in through December 31, 2010.  Please check out the web site – www.scouting.org – to find out about some of the exciting things coming up for us.  We will also have information at our Roundtable each month.
